Should I throw my own baby shower?

I would like to throw my own baby shower but i wonder if is that kinda sorta.... tacky??? I dont want people thinking it's just for the gifts so I was thinking maybe renting a venue, have a big party with decorations i make myself,have custom made things like invitations and centerpieces, order catering and maybe rent the venue with a bar. Do you think this is right or should i just forget about it? No ones offered to throw one for since i just moved to a different state (my husband's friends and live here tho) Plzzz share your opinions
